Mission & Philosophy

Our Mission

Barren Land exists to provide a challenging, fair, and welcoming survival experience where player actions matter and moderation is consistent, transparent, and evidence-based.

The role of staff is not to control gameplay—it is to protect the integrity of the server and ensure every player has an equal opportunity to enjoy the community.

Our Philosophy

Moderation should always be:

  • Fair — Apply rules consistently regardless of friendships, status, or personal opinions.
  • Professional — Remain calm, respectful, and objective in every interaction.
  • Evidence-Based — Decisions should be supported by logs, screenshots, video, or firsthand observation whenever possible.
  • Transparent — Staff should be able to explain the reasoning behind any moderation action.
  • Consistent — Similar situations should receive similar outcomes.

Staff as Community Leaders

Staff members represent the community at all times.

Every interaction—whether handling a report, answering a question, or participating in gameplay—reflects on Barren Land as a whole.

Professionalism, patience, and empathy are expected, even when dealing with difficult situations.

Authority Through Service

Administrative permissions are tools, not rewards.

Staff authority exists solely to:

  • Protect the community
  • Enforce server rules
  • Resolve disputes fairly
  • Maintain server stability
  • Support players

Administrative powers must never be used for personal gain or convenience.

Continuous Improvement

No handbook can anticipate every scenario.

Staff are encouraged to ask questions, seek second opinions, and participate in improving our procedures. Constructive feedback strengthens both our moderation team and the community we serve.

Our goal is not perfection—it is continuous improvement.
